When I finally assembled Smoking Club, I was surprised there weren’t more people hanging out there. I thought I had made quite a few of them. I try not to be redundant so maybe unconsciously I was like, been there, done that. But seeing the gallery put it back in my mind to hunt for cigarettes and little nobodies on a smoking break.
So today’s fellow is fabulous kismet. First I found a dead tree with these weird branch junctions that looked like bird claws. They are quite delicate so I put them in my sunglass hard shell case. About 20 minutes later I see the parrot finger puppet. My first thought is that’s too complete and I walk away. But first rule of Sidewalk Face; always work with new items. So I’m wondering what this parrot can do. He already has a full face. He’s not inspiring me. Then we walk over this thin cigarette. Could he be smoking it? I give it a try but it’s too simple. It just seems dumb. I snap some pics anyway, pick the puppet back up and let the dogs know we’re moving on. Then I remember the claws! I was thinking they would function as feet for standing but when I positioned one more as a hand, it felt exactly right. Now he’s a Sidewalk Face. Welcome to the Smoking Section little guy!
